One senior officer who rushed to the help of a colleague who was ambushed by a blade-wielder was granted the Monarch's Honor for Courage.

Sergeant Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he held a knife to the throat of his fellow officer Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their partner, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver after a road collision in that location in July 2023.

Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a stun gun.

"Policeman stabbed," the constable stated over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and vehicle camera footage made public by the police department showed Brown, wearing in black with a hood covering head, approach to Sergeant Foster from behind with a weapon extended.

He collided with the officer who stumbled and fell to the ground, before Sgt Ansell stepped in and tried to wrestle him to the floor despite being multiple times hit with the knife.

PC Wolstencroft pulled his stun gun and waited for a open target, bringing the struggle to an conclusion.

Sgt Ansell can be heard to say: "I need assistance on my neck here, I'm bleeding in the throat."

Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple deep cuts to his neck and more wounds to his arms and body, while Sgt Foster suffered knife wounds.

Officials said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stem his colleague's blood loss prior to medical personnel reached the scene.

This most recent honor arrives subsequent to the law enforcement team were granted internal Valor Recognitions in late 2023 and the police federation award from the local Police Federation in spring 2024.

They were also awarded a North West Bravery Award in mid-2024.

"The actions of all three officers ultimately rescued each other and resulted in no bystanders suffered any wounds."

Brown received a sentence to an secure medical confinement in early 2024, according to the department.
